Intentional tooth replantation with 180-degree rotation for complicated crown-root fractures in young permanent teeth------A case report with four years follow-up

Complicated crown-root fractures in young permanent teeth can be challenging to treat and to determine the most effective way to restore the teeth function and appearance. One practical way to treat complicated crown-root fractures in young permanent teeth is through intentional tooth replantation (ITR).In this case report, an 11-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with a complicated crown-root fracture involving his maxillary anterior tooth.Clinical examination indicated that approximately one-third of the crown of tooth 11 was fractured at the cervical region.Radiographic assessment revealed no significant evidence of root resorption or fracture.Following a discussion with the patient's parents, we formulated a treatment plan that included the intentional replantation with a 180-degree rotation of tooth 11.Subsequently, a high-strength porcelain crown was placed on the tooth to enhance its aesthetic restoration.Following a four-year period of observation, significant clinical efficacy has been attained.ITR provides a viable approach for addressing complex crown-root fractures in young permanent teeth, potentially aiding affected children in restoring both functionality and aesthetics. This method may also serve as a reference for clinical practitioners in their treatment protocols.
