Şâhidî’nin Işknâme’sinde İlâhî Aşk

AbstractThis study aims to reveal Muğlalı İbrahim Şahidî’s views on divine love. Divine love is a prominent approach in the spiritual journey of knowing Truth and the self, especially in orders like Mevleviyeh. Advancing on the path of Seyr-i Sülûk with love is emphasized by Şahidî as an effective method to reach truth. In his work Işknâme, Şahidî perceives love in humans, animals, nature, and the Islamic value system, reflecting this perspective in his work. Significant studies have been conducted in linguistics and literature regarding Şahidî’s life and works. However, an independent study focusing on divine love, the core of his Sufi thought, would be valuable in understanding his intellectual world, reinterpreting his works, and presenting them to contemporary readers. In fact, all of Şahidî’s works can be evaluated under the theme of divine love. However, he dedicated the final section of his masnavi Gülşen-i Vahdet to this subject, naming the fifty-two-verse part Işknâme.This study first examines the relationship between Işknâme and the concept of divine love in Sufi thought. Then, the textual reflections of this idea are analyzed in detail. For this purpose, the verses of Işknâme are rephrased in modern Turkish while maintaining fidelity to their meaning and expression. To highlight the Sufi philosophy, each verse has been analyzed, exploring key concepts and examining the aesthetic depth of its poetic expression. Some verses were simply translated into modern Turkish, while others required in-depth analysis. As a result, Işknâme is regarded as an explanatory text that presents Şahidî’s emphasis on love in his Sufi understanding, demonstrating the meaning and value of love for him, as well as the manifestations of divine love in the universe and humanity. Understanding Işknâme helps to comprehend Şahidî’s Sufi philosophy and contributes to the reinterpretation of the message he aimed to convey to his readers.
