THE CONSTRUCTIONS OF FUNCTIONAL GRAMMAR
This paper offers an in-depth explanation of the construction of Functional Grammar theory, by providing insights from other theories that discuss, for instance, functionalism from the Prague School, Dik’s Functional Grammar and ending with Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar. Moreover, it highlights the foundational aspects such as ideational, interpersonal, and textual meta functions. The paper emphasizes how these frameworks conceptualize language as a tool for communication and meaning-making rather than a set of structural rules, as it reflects the impact of functional approaches on contemporary linguistic analysis. Therefore, terms like transitivity, markedness and theme and mood were also mentioned to support the multifunctionality of language.
