Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship in Heart Failure: A Review for Cardiologists

Abstract
Collaboration between cardiologists, investigators, entrepreneurs, and investors is critical to addressing unmet clinical needs. This manuscript describes the significant impact of venture capital and entrepreneurship on advancing heart failure (HF) care, and how this ecosystem supports the development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics. The article provides an overview of the venture capital ecosystem and includes case studies within the medtech and biotech sectors, including the development of mavacamten (MyoKardia) and implantable hemodynamic monitoring (CardioMEMS), that illustrate successful collaborations that have improved HF patient care. By leveraging their clinical, scientific, and research expertise, HF cardiologists can foster the development of patient-centric solutions, thereby contributing to the expansion of management options for patients with HF.
