Hormonal methods of controlling reproductive activity in small ruminants
Seasonality of reproductive activity is the most important limiting factor of sheep and goat productivity. The most widely used techniques for controlling and inducing reproductive activity in sheep and goats are based on the use of slow-release intravaginal progesterone devices or intravaginal sponges impregnated with progestogens, equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG), pituitary gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH), prostaglandin and melatonin.
