A Palestinian or Civil Democracy? Decolonisation, Israel and the One Democratic State
In this article I argue that since Israel is a settler colonial state which must be decolonised so that a just and inclusive post-colonial polity may be forged that meets both Palestinian demands for national self-determination and the claims of Israeli Jews to national status, the establishment of one democratic state (ODS) represents the most just and workable resolution. Yet two main forms of ODS have been put forward: one democratic Palestinian state (ODPS) by the One Democratic State Initiative and one democratic civil state (ODCS) by the One Democratic State Campaign. The differences are politically significant and are critically examined.
