The Internal Nanostructure of Lipid Nanoparticles Influences Their Diverse Cellular Uptake Pathways (Small 40/2025)
Lipid Nanoparticles In article number 2500903, Calum J. Drummond, Charlotte E. Conn, Nhiem Tran, and co-workers reveal that non-lamellar lyotropic liquid crystalline nanoparticles (cubosomes, hexosomes, micellar cubosomes) predominantly enter via passive fusion and macropinocytosis, bypassing endocytic recycling seen with lamellar liposomes. These findings highlight mesophase-dependent internalization and advance understanding of lipid nanoparticle–cell interactions crucial for drug delivery.
