Ortaokul 6. Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Sistemlerin Sağlığı Konusu ile İlgili Argüman Seviyelerinin Belirlenmesi
The study aims to determine the argument levels of students about the subject of 'Health of Systems.' The study was implemented in a state secondary school in Giresun province during the 2023-2024 academic year. The research group consisted of 41 students studying in the 6th grade. The study is a case study using qualitative research methods. The research used the activity sheet. In the activity sheet, students were given the diseases in the curriculum (sinusitis, pneumonia, rheumatism, osteoporosis, kidney stones, kidney failure, diarrhea, ulcer, giantism, dwarfism, cancer, anemia) and system names (support and movement system, excretory system, controlling and regulating system, respiratory system, circulatory system, digestive system). Students were asked to make a claim by predicting which system the diseases might belong to and to use justification, support, and rebuttal. The application lasted 2 lesson hours. The activity sheets of the students were analyzed using a descriptive analysis method. They are as follows: Level 1 (claim only), level 2 (claim and justification), level 3 (claim, justification, and supporting), and level 4 (claim, justification, supporting and rebuttal). According to the results of the analysis, 12.2% of the students were identified as level 1, 24.4% as level 2, 51.2% as level 3, and 12.2% as level 4. According to the results, half of the students succeeded in using claim, justification, and support. It was also determined that there were students who could use rebuttal to a good extent. In the application, it was determined that the students' argument levels related to the topic “Health of Systems” were at a good level and they produced quality arguments. It is recommended to carry out different studies in science subjects to improve students' argument generation levels.
