Experimental, Statistical, and <scp>ANN</scp> Analysis of Solid and Circular Perforated Fins Array Under Forced Convection

ABSTRACT The presented work illustrates the comparative analysis of forced convection heat transfer of rectangular solid and circular perforated fin arrays. This study considers fin spacing, perforation diameter, number of perforations, air velocity, and voltage as the varying parameters. The experiments were conducted using aluminum fins. After experimentation, the Nusselt number is calculated for all fin arrays. A statistical analysis is conducted to contrast the solid and fins with circular perforated fin array combinations. The orthogonal array test design method is applied to explore the parameters that affect system performance. In the case of rectangular solid fins, L9 OA was chosen. In the case of circular perforated fins, L27 OA was selected. For comparison, the larger‐is‐better (ZL) is utilized since an increase in Nusselt number means an increase in the heat transfer rate. The statistical and experimental analysis arrives at the finding that the Nusselt number rises with the velocity. A fin spacing of 10 mm provides a larger heat transmission rate. The diameter of the fin plays an effective role in determining the heat rate. In general conditions, circular perforated fins possess a greater heat transfer rate as compared to solid fins. This is because turbulence or disturbance is created between the fins. Additionally, the temperature in the entering zone is less than in the departure area. Perforated fins also assist in reducing the overall weight of the system. At last, nine models of ANN and two ANFIS are applied for predicting the Nusselt number. The accurate models are found from error measurement based on mean absolute deviation and mean absolute percent error.
