Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome: A Case Report of an Uncommon Vascular Malformation

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare venous malformation primarily affecting the skin and mucous membranes, with fewer than 200 cases reported globally. The condition typically presents in early childhood with bluish, compressible nodules and can also involve internal organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, potentially leading to complications such as iron deficiency anemia. We present the case of an 18-year-old male with a history of multiple cutaneous and oral mucosal lesions since childhood. The lesions, which started on his left arm and progressively spread to other body parts, were associated with occasional pain. Diagnostic imaging, biopsy, and family history confirmed BRBNS without gastrointestinal involvement. The patient was successfully treated with multiple sessions of sclerotherapy, leading to significant improvement. This case also highlights the effectiveness of sclerotherapy in treating symptomatic cutaneous lesions in BRBNS.
