Reddit Reaction to Negro Leagues Inclusion in Major League Baseball The Show Video Game

Before the release of the video game MLB The Show 23 , the game’s designers announced that, for the first time ever, Negro Leagues players would be available as usable characters. Many took to the online platform Reddit, a space often known for its negativity and racism, to discuss this inclusion. An examination of the 270 comments on the initial announcement thread found that the vast majority of the comments were positive toward the Negro Leagues players. Four themes were discovered within the community: (a) excitement about the Negro Leagues players, (b) questions and answers about gameplay, (c) what is next for the series, and (d) frustration with the game.
