CONSTRUÇÃO DO CONHECIMENTO EM AÇÃO NO JIU-JITSU: ESTUDO PILOTO DE UMA PROPOSTA METODOLÓGICA DE ANÁLISE PELO CURSO DA AÇÃO
This article analyzes how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes build knowledge-in-action during competitive matches, using the Course of Action Theory as a methodological framework. It is a qualitative pilot study conducted with a black belt athlete, two-time world champion, who competed in the 2025 Brazilian Championship. Two matches, one won and one lost, were analyzed through self-confrontation interviews supported by audiovisual recordings and direct observations. The analysis was structured in three hierarchical levels: fight moments, tactical dimensions, and technical-tactical actions, allowing a deeper understanding of decision-making processes in real combat situations. The results showed that knowledge-in-action is dynamic and situated, emerging from the articulation between perceptions, intentions, and executions. In the winning match, the athlete explored relevant environmental information, articulated defense, attack, and maintenance, and successfully converted perceptions into effective actions, while in the losing match a hasty initial decision compromised the strategic sequence and resulted in a predominantly defensive performance. It is concluded that knowledge-in-action constitutes a central axis of competitive practice in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, demonstrating how athletes reorganize their decisions in real time according to the conditions of the fight. The application of the Course of Action Theory is confirmed as a pertinent methodological tool to access lived experience and to enhance the understanding of decision-making in combat sports.
