Design and Implementation of Hybrid Sampling Scheme on FPGA for Deep Detection GPR

Low-frequency ground-penetrating radar (GPR) offers strong penetration capabilities, making it well-suited for deep target detection. However, current ground penetrating radar systems are constrained by power consumption and weight, making it difficult to simultaneously balance dynamic range and measurement speed, which limits their application in UAV GPR. In this paper, we propose a hybrid sampling method based on FPGA that is specifically designed for low-frequency GPR applications. This method employs a FPGA based step delay generation method at the transmitting and a high-speed ADC at the receiving end to capture echoes, effectively addressing the trade-off between scan rate and power consumption, and enhancing the system's ability to detect weak echoes with low power consumption and lightweight design. Experimental results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
