Development, Validation, & Application of Generic IBR Models for Future System Studies
This paper describes the development of generic Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) models for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Static Synchronous Compensators with Energy Storage (E-STATCOM) to represent their behavior in both Grid Following (GFL) and Grid Forming (GFM) modes of operation. The performance, and more importantly the limitations, of the developed models are verified by equipment manufactures prior to conducting application simulation studies. The purpose of simulation studies is to identify any interactions between various technologies and the grid as well as identify ways in which GFM technology could help the future power system.
