Sensitivity Analysis of a Grid-Forming Droop Control System for Power Converters

The control parameter tuning of stand-alone or parallel operated three-phase power electronic converters can present a significant challenge, particularly for converters with a low switching frequency. Conventional tuning methods can be used to determine the voltage and current control parameters but are not guaranteed to succeed. On the other hand there are control parameters that can’t be determined analytically but have to be determined experimentally. Especially the control parameters of grid-forming control are subject of the investigation. These parameters are then verified with time-domain simulations to evaluate the dynamic behaviour of the system.

Abstract

The control parameter tuning of stand-alone or parallel operated three-phase power electronic converters can present a significant challenge, particularly for converters with a low switching frequency. Conventional tuning methods can be used to determine the voltage and current control parameters but are not guaranteed to succeed. On the other hand there are control parameters that can’t be determined analytically but have to be determined experimentally. Especially the control parameters of grid-forming control are subject of the investigation. These parameters are then verified with time-domain simulations to evaluate the dynamic behaviour of the system.
