Toward Resilient Cloud Services: A Pattern-Based Fault-Tolerance Approach

Cloud computing and microservice architectures are fundamental components in the development of scalable and flexible applications. However, their inherently distributed nature increases the risk of failures that can compromise service continuity. This article introduces a dynamic resilience system designed to continuously adapt fault-tolerance strategies in real time, based on observed system behavior. Unlike static configurations, the proposed system actively monitors latency and error rate metrics, dynamically selecting and applying appropriate fault-tolerant design patterns—such as circuit breakers, retry strategies, and request limiting—to preempt or mitigate service degradation. To validate its effectiveness, a demonstrative business-oriented application was developed to simulate critical failure scenarios. The results showed that the system could autonomously detect failures and deploy resilience mechanisms without manual intervention or service restarts, ensuring uninterrupted operation. This adaptive approach offers a flexible and intelligent foundation for organizations aiming to enhance resilience in modern, distributed environments.
