Second Order Statistical Properties of PMU Data Aiming Power Systems Applications
The increasing deployment of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) has introduced complex-valued measurements into system monitoring and control frameworks. This work applies the second-order statistical properties of complex signals to PMU data, aiming at power systems applications in the complex domain. Two sets of actual data are used to this end. The first uses data from PMU installed in the National Interconnected Brazilian power grid, which is termed (SIN). The second uses data from the phasor measurement unit (PMU) installed in low-voltage distribution systems, notably PMUs installed on university campuses across Brazil and funded by the MedFasee project. Results demonstrate that PMU signals predominantly show proper and circular characteristics, hence guaranteeing the reduction to real-valued covariance matrices in actual systems.
