V-Band Low-Cost and Low-Profile 2-D Scanning Antenna Based on Modified Rotman Lens

This letter presents a low-cost, low-profile two-dimensional (2-D) scanning antenna operating in the V-band. Its two orthogonal scanning directions are implemented respectively through phase adjustment in a modified Rotman lens configuration and frequency-dependent beam steering via a leaky-wave antenna (LWA). By adopting a quasi-optical approach combined with a port radiation model and a power transfer model to customize the Rotman lens ports, the lens' transmission efficiency is effectively enhanced, thus preventing degradation of the total efficiency. Fabricated as a single-layer substrate structure using printed circuit board (PCB) technology, the antenna achieves a measured peak realized gain of 22.6 dBi, with scanning coverage angles of 80° and 37° in the two orthogonal directions, respectively.
