Comparative Study of Different Methods for Analyzing Gasketed Bolted Flanged Joints
Abstract This paper aims to briefly discuss the different methods for analyzing gasketed bolted flanged joints (GBFJ) in various North American codes and standards. We plan to discuss four things: 1. A cursory overview of some common GBFJ codes and standards 2. Methods for determining ASME PCC-1 gasket constants (Sgmin-o and Sgmin-S) using PVRC ROTT test results 3. Method for Incorporating elastic interaction effects into gasket stress during operation 4. Validation of flange limits in PCC-1 using elastic closed form analysis The scope of this study will be limited to integral type flanges with gaskets entirely inside the bolt circle. Methods for analyzing ring type joints are outside the scope of this study.
