Stress Prediction and Protective Measures Analysis of Pipeline Under Traffic Load

Abstract With the rapid development of urbanization and oil and gas pipeline construction, the intersection of buried pipelines and urban roads is becoming more and more frequent. Vehicles on the road will cause additional stress to buried pipelines. If there is a load of large overweight vehicles, it may threaten the safety of pipelines. In this paper, the nonlinear finite element numerical method based on pipe-soil coupling is adopted to establish the numerical calculation model of stress and strain of buried pipeline under traffic load. The model can be used to analyze the mechanical response and safety status of buried pipelines under traffic loads under common working conditions. Based on the model calculation results, a database is established. The MATLAB nonlinear fitting method is used to fit the pipeline wall thickness, buried depth, internal pressure, vehicle quality and soil type as influencing factors. The maximum Mises stress prediction formula of the pipeline under traffic loads suitable for various working conditions is obtained. In addition, this paper also numerically models the safety protection measures of buried pipelines under the commonly used traffic loads. The protective effects of different protective measures and the size of protective area on buried pipelines are compared and analyzed, and more reliable safety protection suggestions are put forward to provide reference for pipeline protection under traffic load in engineering.
