The robustness of Stb resistance genes
The robustness of the Stb16q resistance gene Conclusion: The Stb16q gene shows an isolate-dependent loss of efficacy at high concentrations of Z. tritici spores. Stb16q-dependent stomatal closure and penetration attempts of Stb16 NIL increase by three fold and 10 fold, respectively, using a 30 fold higher inoculum concentration. The two isolates that induced the greatest loss of Stb16q efficacy share the same AvrSTB16 isoform, suggesting that the different isoforms displayed different efficiencies in the AvrSTB16 -STB16 recognition process and in the Stb16q mediated resistance.
