Transposon dynamics fuel rapid effector evolution in large genome panels of Magnaporthe oryzae and Zymoseptoria tritici fungal crop pathogens
CONTEXT Plant-fungal interactions are mainly driven by pathogen effectors (e.g.Avr) and plant resistance (R) genes. To avoid adaptation in host recognition, effectors must evolve fast. High transposable element (TE) activity is hypothesized to accelerate sequence and regulatory evolution.Determining mechanisms of recent effector evolution should help predict resistance durability.
