Unravelling the functions of Xanthomonas effectors during Brassica infection
Subtle Sabotage: Discovering Brassica Susceptibility factors for Xanthomonas infectionThe vascular pathogen Xanthomonas campestris pv.campestris (Xcc) causes the Black Rot disease on Brassica oleracea. The model strain Xcc8004 has 32 Type-3 effectors (T3Es), which modify host physiology and/or the immune system by interacting with the host plant.Effectors targets are thus crucial elements for Xcc infection and some of these targets may represent Susceptibility (S) factors.R-gene based resistance is scarce in B. oleracea cultivars. Therefore, this project aims to identify novel resistance mechanisms by leveraging host S genes in B. oleracea.
