Simulation and Performance Evaluation of a Hemispherical Solar Still Using Comsol Multiphysics
The lack of freshwater availability is one of the crucial concerns in both developing and developed nations. However, there are vast amounts of saline water in the earth, and when they are converted into freshwater, then this problem will be solved. The solar still is a thermal technology used to purify saline water. To design solar still using proper values based on water temperature, distilled output, and temperature between the inner glass cover and water temperature. This article presents a modified hemi‐cylindrical solar still (MHCSS) with fins that use a hemispherical head that is capable of receiving solar energy from everywhere. The fin model offers improvements in terms of productivity and manufacturing. The experiments are conducted in the Virudhunagar district, Tamilnadu, which receives increased solar power. The 2Dimensional three‐phase model of the MHCSS is made with the help of the Cosmol v.6.1 software. The evaporation and condensation phases are also explored here. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the MHCSS in terms of water temperature, distillate output, and so on. The water temperature and distilled output achieved a tradeoff between the actual and experimental results. The results show that the proposed model increases the daily productivity up to 7.1 kg m 2 .
