Sub‐THz Generation Device Based on Optical Difference Frequency Generation Using MgO:LiTaO3 Rectangular Waveguide

ABSTRACT We propose a sub‐THz signal generation device based on optical difference‐frequency generation (DFG) in a periodically poled MgO: rectangular waveguide. In the experimental demonstration, a sub‐THz signal was successfully generated at around the frequency of 100 GHz from an intensity‐modulated optical input using a frequency‐quadrupled two‐tone signal generator. The measured frequency response of the fabricated prototype device showed good agreement with theoretical predictions.

In the experimental demonstration, a sub‐THz signal was successfully generated at around the frequency of 100 GHz from an intensity‐modulated optical input using a frequency‐quadrupled two‐tone signal generator.
