Sounds of Climate Change: A Conversation between Sound Art, Data, and Alfred N. Whitehead

Abstract: This paper develops a sonic approach to climate change. It argues that such an approach can help rethink political awareness of the climate crisis by engaging the vibrations that circulate between humans and the planet, affecting bodies on and below consciousness. To support this argument, the paper brings together Alfred N. Whitehead’s process philosophy with climate data, sound art, and environmental political thought. In doing so, the paper hopes to generate new avenues for ecological thinking and information-sharing at a time when the effect of visual representations of environmental degradation is fading yet the need for sustainable living-together accelerates.
