Seismic Response of L-Shaped Piping System Supported by Elasto-Plastic Dampers Subjected to Artificial Seismic Waves Using Spectral Matching

Abstract The response behaviors of a piping system subjected to seismic waves are studied using probabilistic theory. The piping system is modeled as an L-shaped piping with a mass at the free end and supported by elasto-plastic dampers. Nonstationary seismic waves are generated through a white Gaussian noise weighted by a deterministic time function. Furthermore, nonstationary artificial waves are obtained by applying spectral matching to the time-weighted white noise. Three target acceleration response spectra of the spectral matching are based on the Japanese Building Standards Laws. The reliability of the piping and energy absorption ratio are used as evaluation indices of the response behavior of the piping subjected to seismic waves. The responses of the piping system subjected to white noise, time-weighted white noise, and nonstationary artificial waves are compared after spectral matching. Furthermore, the responses of pipings subjected to three types of nonstationary artificial waves based on three types of target acceleration response spectra are also compared.
