Pseudomonas alter the host chemical environment to invade host tissues
Background and HypothesisPlants use secondary metabolites, such as glucosinolates, to defend against herbivores and microorganisms. The interactions between glucosinolates and their toxic hydrolysis products, such as isothiocyanates, with plant pathogens have long been studied. However, many of these studies have focused on general crop associated pathogens. To better understand the natural defense mechanism pathogens might have to these compounds we seek to use a wild-Brassicaceae associated pathogenic Pseudomonas clade (ATUE5), since glucosinolates are nearly exclusively produced by this plant family, to understand how the defense mechanisms of wild-Brassicaceae associated Pseudomonas compare to crop associated Pseudomonas.
