Research on Human Gait Characteristics at Different Walking Speeds Based on Pose Estimation and HHT

This study aims to provide doctors with metrics for assessing the rehabilitation of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients at varying walking speeds. Using a pose estimation algorithm, knee flexion angle signals at different speeds are obtained and validated with Qualisys. Key angle metrics during gait phases and the maximum amplitude of the marginal spectrum from EEMD and Hilbert-Huang Transform are extracted. The method demonstrates high validity (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$r>0.8$</tex>, ICC <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$>0.9$</tex>) and significant differences in angle values and marginal spectrum amplitude across speeds (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2 ~\text{km} / \mathrm{h}, 4 ~\text{km} / \mathrm{h}, 6 ~\text{km} / \mathrm{h}$</tex>), offering a dimensionally enhanced, easily applicable rehabilitation assessment tool for KOA patients.

Abstract

This study aims to provide doctors with metrics for assessing the rehabilitation of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients at varying walking speeds. Using a pose estimation algorithm, knee flexion angle signals at different speeds are obtained and validated with Qualisys. Key angle metrics during gait phases and the maximum amplitude of the marginal spectrum from EEMD and Hilbert-Huang Transform are extracted. The method demonstrates high validity (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$r>0.8$</tex>, ICC <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$>0.9$</tex>) and significant differences in angle values and marginal spectrum amplitude across speeds (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2 ~\text{km} / \mathrm{h}, 4 ~\text{km} / \mathrm{h}, 6 ~\text{km} / \mathrm{h}$</tex>), offering a dimensionally enhanced, easily applicable rehabilitation assessment tool for KOA patients.
