Characterizing the Coincidence of Residential Power Demand

To reduce the underestimation of available grid capacity during grid planning, our work has developed methods for characterizing the coincident power demand of different groupings of residential power consumers. By verifying the validity of the developed method, as well as using it in an example grid connection case, we enable DSOs to more precisely partition their consumer base by the coincidence of their demand and inscribe fitting coincidence factors. We find the greatest capacity savings potential is attained if the peak demand of consumers with district heating are treated separately than those without.

Abstract

To reduce the underestimation of available grid capacity during grid planning, our work has developed methods for characterizing the coincident power demand of different groupings of residential power consumers. By verifying the validity of the developed method, as well as using it in an example grid connection case, we enable DSOs to more precisely partition their consumer base by the coincidence of their demand and inscribe fitting coincidence factors. We find the greatest capacity savings potential is attained if the peak demand of consumers with district heating are treated separately than those without.
