MSTC-OCDM: A High-Reliability Transmission Scheme for Power-Line Communications
This paper proposes a novel transmission scheme for power line communication (PLC) systems, termed Modified Symbol-Time Compression Orthogonal Chirp Division Multiplexing (MSTC-OCDM). By combining time-domain symbol compression with orthogonal modulation based on the Fresnel transform, the proposed scheme improves both spectral efficiency and communication reliability. A PLC channel model that closely matches real-world measurements is constructed, incorporating colored background noise, asynchronous impulsive noise, and frequency-selective Rayleigh fading. Monte Carlo simulations are carried out under both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and PLC environments using MATLAB. The results demonstrate that the proposed MSTC-OCDM scheme significantly outperforms MSTC-OFDM under PLC conditions, achieving more than 10 dB improvement in bit error rate (BER) performance. Furthermore, compared to quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with the same spectral efficiency, MSTC-OCDM achieves over 1.5 dB BER gain, verifying its feasibility and superiority for future high-speed and interference-resilient PLC systems.
