Dynamic Security Assessment of the Slovenian Electric Power System

The increasing penetration of dispersed and often unpredictable renewable energy sources, combined with the stochastic behaviour of electricity markets, poses daily challenges to the stability of modern electric power systems. This paper addresses this issue by presenting a dynamic security assessment of the Slovenian electric power system, with a focus on its dynamic stability properties. The proposed tool gathers information about arbitrary, including real-time, operational states of the power system and feeds this data into a specially developed model. The model's structure and the steps required to ensure an accurate representation of the real network are outlined. Using this model, key indices relevant for transient, frequency, and small signal stability are calculated. These indices provide a comprehensive assessment of the system's ability to maintain stability under various operating conditions and disturbances. Results are displayed in an intuitive graphic, giving system operator clear insights into the system's dynamic stability. A specific use case is analysed to demonstrate the tool's capabilities, including the time required from data acquisition to the graphical presentation of results. Preliminary results indicate promising potential for real-time dynamic stability assessment, with ongoing efforts to optimize and accelerate the process for practical deployment.
