Design and Implementation of Robust Control for Three-Phase Active Rectifier

Three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifiers are widely employed in various applications, such as industrial drives, traction systems, and power supply systems. However, system uncertainties - including load disturbances, parametric variations, and grid perturbations - can lead to significant DC-link voltage fluctuations, degrade current quality, and potentially destabilize the system. To address these challenges, a robust and advanced H<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">∞</inf> multi-input multi-output (MIMO) state-feedback control strategy is proposed for uncertain systems. Sufficient conditions are derived for robust stabilization, in the sense of Lyapunov method, for studied system with parametric uncertainties. The sufficient conditions are formulated in the format of linear matrix inequalities. The proposed control strategy is validated through comparative analysis with conventional methods, including vector control and standard H<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">∞</inf> control. Validation scenarios encompass load variations and short-circuit events. The results demonstrate that the proposed methodology achieves superior performance in terms of system stability, DC-link voltage regulation, and current quality. The advanced control strategy is validated through both simulation and real-time experimentation. Simulations based on electromagnetic transient (EMT) model of a three-phase PWM rectifier are conducted using MATLAB/Simscape , while real-time implementation is achieved via the Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL) approach, utilizing the STM32 Nucleo microcontroller platform.
