Quantifying Cyber-Physical Resilience in Power Grids with Extensive Integration of EV Charging
Integration of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) in the grid requires the integration of information and communication technologies to coordinate charging and facilitate communication between stakeholders involved in managing the charging process. While these technologies enable optimized charging by utilizing consumer flexibility, it also creates new attack surfaces making the power grid increasingly vulnerable to disruptions caused by cyberattacks. While the impact of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) related cyberattacks on grids has been studied in the literature, there is a significant gap of systematic frameworks and metrics which assess overall system resilience to these attacks. This paper addresses this gap by operationalizing a resilience assessment framework for cyber-physical systems to power grids with EVCI. The work also evaluates specific metrics that quantify the resilience of the system to cyberattacks on EVCI.
