MULTICAST GROUP MANAGEMENT BASED RPL FOR POINT TO MULTIPOINT MULTIMODAL DATA COMMUNICATION
In an Internet of Things(IoT) network, a base station fetches data associatedwith various sensors in the network via multicast queries. When a query reachesa node, the node responds back to the query if it supports that sensor in addition to forwarding the query further down the network. This way the queriescan land on parts of the network that don’t support any of the sensors leadingto wastage of bandwidth and energy. To overcome this drawback, a multicastgroup management scheme is proposed that optimizes the forwarding of themulticast address based queries in an IoT network. The proposed work is implemented in ContikiOS and executed as a simulation on Cooja as well as on areal time IoT network, FiTIoT-Lab. The results of the simulation indicate thatthe proposed method outperforms with the existing method in the overall network. Experimental results mention that the proposed method improves PDRfor 2 level and 3 level topology by 35.03% and 28.18% respectively. Keywords: IoT, Multicast, Query, Routing, 6LoWPAN
