Overcoming Barriers and Challenges in Non-Profit Organizations: Strategies for Resilience and Sustainability
Non-profit organizations in developing regions operate under constant structural, financial, and cultural constraints that challenge their capacity to achieve sustainable impact. This article systematically examines key barriers—funding instability, infrastructure limitations, human resource shortages, regulatory complexity, and cultural barriers—and identifies strategies for resilience and long-term sustainability. Through a synthesis of theoretical insights and case studies from BRAC (Bangladesh), Barefoot College (India), and Tostan (West Africa), it demonstrates how organizations can strengthen adaptability through diversified funding, cross-sector partnerships, capacity building, and community participation. The analysis highlights that technical solutions alone are insufficient; lasting success depends on embedding trust, cultural relevance, and local ownership into organizational practice. For scholars, the article deepens understanding of systemic constraints in non-profit management; for practitioners, it provides a strategic framework for building resilience and achieving sustainable impact under conditions of scarcity and uncertainty.
