Leadership in Non-Profit Organizations: Balancing Ethics, Resilience, and Sustainability

Leadership in non-profit organizations is a multidimensional practice that unites ethics, empathy, and adaptability under conditions of persistent scarcity and complexity. This article explores how non-profit leaders balance relational depth with structural strength—cultivating trust, accountability, and innovation while ensuring organizational sustainability. It argues that constraints can serve as catalysts for creative problem-solving and that leadership must evolve from individual performance toward collective empowerment. Drawing on examples from BRAC, Barefoot College, and SEWA, the analysis demonstrates that enduring impact arises from leadership models rooted in community ownership, cultural legitimacy, and ethical integrity. For scholars, the article synthesizes theoretical and practical dimensions of non-profit leadership; for practitioners, it provides a vision of leadership as service, resilience, and long-term stewardship of mission-driven institutions.
