Parenting Styles and Resilience in Young Adults: The Mediating Role of Trust in Romantic Relationships
The study aims to examine how trust as faith, dependability and predictability mediates the relationship between parenting styles and resilience in young adults, in the collectivist cultures of Pakistan. The study employed a research survey design with (N=199) young adults’ participants (Male = 89, Females = 110) aged between 18 to 40 years (M=1.47, SD=0.665), using validated scale including Perceived Parenting Styles, Trust scale and Brief Resilience Scale to measure the variables. Ethical guidelines were strictly followed. The findings supporting the hypothesis suggests that authoritative parenting does significantly corelates with resilience, faith and dependability mediates this effect. Whereas authoritarian negatively influence resilience with faith mediating its effect and permissive parenting showed no significant relation with resilience or trust. The study highlights the role of trust and its factors in promoting and fostering resilience but also emphasize the need of culturally associated parenting interventions to foster resilience in young adults.
