Volume 70.3 (2025)
Building on existing investigations in cookbooks-as manuals, historical documents, community creations, social texts, and sites of political protest-this special issue of Amerikastudien / American Studies brings together new research on cookbooks in and as American culture, drawing the fields of American studies and foodways studies into conversation with book history.Relating the symbolic and sentimental nature of cookbooks to the iconic apple pie, the introduction to the special issue foregrounds the multitude of ways cookbooks-as genre, text, object, and commodity-have supported national cohesion and pride and how cookbooks have served and continue to serve as sites of resistance. It also sketches out the setup of the special issue and points to perspectives for future research.
