An Efficiency Optimization Strategy for PMSM Drives by Combination of LMC and Multi-Vector- MPC

This article proposes an efficiency optimization control scheme for three-phase inverter-fed interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs). In the proposed method, a refined loss model of PMSM is introduced with online identification of iron loss resistance, thus achieving an adaption to variable operating conditions. In addition, in order to improve both dynamic and steady-state performance, the loss minimization control (LMC) scheme is proposed and combined with three-vector finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC). Through hardware-in-loop and experimental tests on a 6.4 kW IPMSM drive setup, a comparison of four hybrid control methods have been studied. The LMC and maximum torque per ampere (MTPA), are separately combined with field oriented control (FOC) and model predictive control (MPC). The results have verified that the proposed LMC-MPC method achieved favorable control performance with low switching frequency. Moreover, it can reduce power losses of the inverter-motor system over various operating conditions.
