A High-Efficiency X-Band Relativistic Magnetron With External Sector Cavities Operating in TE₀₁₁ Mode

We propose a high-efficiency X-band relativistic magnetron (RM) with external sector cavities operating in TE011 mode for the first time. A 16-vane anode resonator with eight coupling slots is employed for such a structure, while the outer cavity consists of eight sector cavities. A coaxial waveguide is closely adjacent to these external sector cavities for axial output. By controlling the operating mode of the external sector cavities to be TE011 mode, external sector cavities are tightly coupled with the π-mode of the inner cavity, and the output mode from the coaxial waveguide is TE01. Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations demonstrate that under a diode voltage of 550 kV and beam current of 4.55 kA, with a 0.28 T axial magnetic field, the device generates 2.03 GW output power at 8.05 GHz with 81.1% efficiency.
