EV mediated cross-kingdom RNA trafficking between plants and fungal pathogens
Cross-kingdom RNA trafficking between plants and fungal pathogens regulates infection outcomes. We have shown that plant extracellular vesicles (EVs) deliver sRNAs and mRNAs to the fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea, suppressing its virulence, while fungal EVs deliver sRNAs to suppress plant immunity. However, how EVs cross plant and fungal cell walls remains unknown.Currently, we are investigating the mechanisms of EV cell wall crossing to uncover critical aspects of cross-kingdom communication and identify novel targets for disease control.
