Nonreciprocal magneto-optical effects associated with surface resonances in direct reflection off InSb
Abstract Due to the high degree of technological possibilities, magneto-optical effects at terahertz frequencies have been highly studied recently. One effect that presents interesting possibilities is the Goos–Hänchen shift of radiation reflected from a magneto-optical medium. In the present work, we examine reflection of terahertz radiation off the surface of indium antimonide (InSb) in the presence of an external magnetic field, showing nonreciprocal effects associated with surface resonances linked to magnetoplasmon polaritons. Under the right circumstances, the accompanying Goos–Hänchen shift is enhanced by the existence of these modes. In addition, dips in the reflectivity associated with such modes should also occur. The described effects should be observable experimentally without too much difficulty, since we consider ambient temperature and a small applied field.
