β-Type High-Gain Boost Converter with Diode-Capacitor Cell

In modern microgrids and energy storage systems, high step-up DC converters are often required to facilitate power transfer between low-voltage sources and high-voltage DC buses. In this paper, a β-type high-gain boost converter with a diode-capacitor cell (β-DCBC) is proposed. The β-DCBC achieves a high voltage gain of 3/(1-2D), where D is the same duty cycle applied to both switches. The paper first introduces the operational principles of the β-DCBC, followed by an analysis and comparison of the voltage and current stresses of its components with those of existing high step-up DC converters in literature for similar applications. Furthermore, the practical voltage gain and efficiency—including the effects of parasitic parameters and power losses—are thoroughly evaluated. Finally, circuit simulations demonstrate the low stress and cost-effective advantages of the β-DCBC. This topology provides a promising solution for photovoltaic (PV) systems in DC microgrids that require high voltage gains.
