Method for Estimating Power Loss of IGBT Module in Wind Power Converter Based on Measured Temperature Information

Online monitoring of the temperature of IGBTs represents a crucial approach for boosting the reliability of wind power converters. The junction temperature is calculated based on the device power loss in the current thermal model techniques. However, it is challenging to obtain this power loss value with high precision in real time. Consequently, this paper introduces a new type of power loss observer, aiming to accurately estimate the real-time power loss. Different from traditional methods, the proposed approach merely requires the measurement of the heatsink temperature. This paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the mathematical principle, algorithm, and implementation steps of the proposed method. Moreover, both simulation and experiment are employed to verify the effectiveness of the loss observer.
