An Integrated Care Pathway for Patients With Microtia and Atresia
Microtia, often accompanied by aural atresia, presents complex reconstructive and audiological challenges that requires a multidisciplinary approach. We describe our service model used in our ear reconstruction centre in Edinburgh, with an emphasis on modern techniques for hearing rehabilitation and external ear reconstruction. We employ a hub-and-spoke model, and management includes early diagnosis, auditory rehabilitation, and a range of reconstructive options. We recommend coordinating surgical planning for hearing implants and ear reconstruction to minimise complications.
