JV Marienhof – Tunnelling under compressed air conditions and excavation works in the inner‐city area
Abstract In the heart of Munich's city centre, the new Marienhof station is being built for the second S‐Bahn main line. The new central access structure is being constructed using the diaphragm wall method and, at a depth of 42 m, is the deepest excavation pit in Germany to date. The platform tunnels for the station and a connecting tunnel to the existing U3/U6 underground line are also being driven from the excavation pit at Marienhof using the mine driving method under compressed air. The following article provides an overview of the status of the work and the special features of the connecting tunnel excavation.
