Positive streamers in air: Effect of the average applied field

An approximate approach to estimating the average velocity and radius of streamers generated at the fronts of applied voltage pulses is presented. It is shown that this approach gives the dependence of the average streamer parameters on the value of the average applied electric field consistent with results of numerical streamer simulations.

Abstract

An approximate approach to estimating the average velocity and radius of streamers generated at the fronts of applied voltage pulses is presented. It is shown that this approach gives the dependence of the average streamer parameters on the value of the average applied electric field consistent with results of numerical streamer simulations.
