A nyílt örökbeadás mint a reproduktív méltányosság határhelyzete
Open adoption is a lesser-known yet particularly sensitive area of the adoption system, presenting a highly complex decision-making situation for birth mothers. This study aims to explore the social background, relationship status, motivations, and structural determinants of the decisions made by women who choose open adoption. The research is based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of data from 100 birth mothers documented by the Fészek Foundation for Adoptive Parents and Adoptees between 2019 and 2024. The findings indicate that these decisions are primarily influenced by severe socioeconomic disadvantage, unstable partnerships, pervasive social stigma, and a lack of support systems. The study also reveals that open adoption is not merely a legal act but a process with significant long-term psychological and social consequences. Its aim is not only to shed light on the invisible actors – the birth mothers – but also to contribute to the rethinking of social policy and professional practice, particularly in the context of supporting women in crisis pregnancies and strengthening the preventive capacities of the child protection system.
