EXPRESSION OF NATIONAL COLOR IN TRANSLATIONS INTO RUSSIAN AND AZERBAIJANI LANGUAGES OF L. FEUCHTWANGER'S NOVEL THE LAUTENSAC BROTHERS
The concept of "national color" includes everything related to the customs and traditions, everyday life, and moral values of the people. The degree of expression of national color in different works varies. It is reflected in the grammatical, lexical, semantic structures, as well as in the content of the work. Many translation problems are related to the transfer of national color. The article provides a comparative analysis of translations of L. Feuchtwanger's novel The Lautensack Brothers into Russian and Azerbaijani to find out whether it was possible to convey nationally colored elements to the target language. Comparison of the original and translated texts showed that the translators reflected national color through the choice of words and idiomatic expressions; syntax and sentence structure; dialects or regionally colored vocabulary; explanations and footnotes; preservation of the author's style. Methods of conveying national color: borrowings, calques, descriptive translation, use of analogies, omissions and additions.
